A Collection of Colt & FN Pistols
Colt 1903 Type 1, first year production extremely rare condition as it was called the Pocket Hammerless, most early year examples are usually well worn and handled. This example would be considered a high polish mirrored finish. Colt's pre WWII finishes were carbon tempered blued which the early method was covering the parts in a charcoal bone ash oil mixture smoldering in an elongated trough then inspected and re-inspected taken from the coals and hand rubbed to impart the correct finish with repeated steps as needed. Around 1916, the charcoal trough method was replaced with rotating gas ovens.
FN 1903 # 20 Salesman Sample; With Rare Fire Blue Accents
Colt 1908 Serial # 96350 Factory Nickel Plated, Mother of Pearl Grips Without Rampant Colt Medalion
Fabrique Nationale did not hold back on this salesman sample to obtain large contract sales for the FN 1903 9mm Browning Long. Extremely rare, with smaller rear slide contour radius unlike production models. Uniquely, impressive is the fire blue accents on the trigger, safety release, rear sight, barrel bushing, and grip screw. This pistol is marked number 20 on the trigger guard, barrel bushing, grips, and slide hammer well, The rust blue matches the FN 1900 patina with a blue grey accent where most production pistols tend to be more black grey with less blue accent in the finish. Interestingly, the internal slide and frame were left unfinished unlike production models that the internals were blued as well.
